Merry Christmas!
Pinky
I decided to start a blog with reviews of books that I am currently reading and information about books I am interested in. I am not accepting any new books to review at this time, because I have some catching up to do on the books I already have.
Jen Maddox is a few days into her summer study abroad program and has loved every moment. She just left Mexico and is back on her cruise ship campus, ready to sail to Panama. Everyone tells her that the experience will change her life, but none of them realize just how drastic the change will be.
One night she goes out on deck and encounters five other students. She knows Charlie from one of her classes and he's a funny, friendly, regular guy. Picture-perfect Dani and his gorgeous wife Mariana live right down the hall from Jen. And she has seen TS, who's built like a truck, around the ship and recognizes the cute, but quiet Thomas as well.
Then Jen sees something that isn't humanly possible. Jen would have thought that it was all a dream, if not for the fact that Charlie, Dani, Mariana, TS, and Thomas are making every effort to cover it up. Suddenly, the five of them are everything but normal and Jen is determined to figure out what they're hiding.
When she does, her life really does change. Jen expected to spend her summer studying ancient Aztec and modern Panamanian worlds, but she never dreamed she'd learn about a magical one. Or find herself in it.
But Jen's childhood fantasy come true is about to turn into a nightmare; there's something on the ship. Something dangerous. Suddenly, everyone on board is threatened by a creature Jen never even believed existed. Jen and her new friends might be the only people who can stop it!
Now Jen has to learn everything she can about her new world before it kills her. And her friends. And maybe everyone on the entire ship.

Jorden gritted his teeth as he surveyed the somewhat odd world he found himself within.
Things had settled down somewhat for the Tasmanian youth. He now accepted that he had somehow stumbled into a land of both beauty and nightmare, and was now forced to live within its bounds until he could find someone to help him return home. It was a world of warped pseudo-physics, a mash of realities and fantasies littered with peoples who were slightly not what they should have been.
Yet Jorden Miles had grown used to his aestri friend Taf: her claw-like nails, her angular teeth, and the eyes that belonged to a beast of the night. She was mostly human – pseudo-human in the ways that mattered – and she was a very dear friend. Even the huge landsdraw and the dirge weren't really that odd. Rats were rats and fish were fish, and sea-dragons were only God knew what. There were horses and cattle and sheep and pigs, and a few crystals and rocks made the world go round.
Aside from the earthquakes and this stormy Time of Darkness thing, all was peachy.
What was most important to Jorden Miles was that this was a world of men that was run by the female classes of the spiritual kaedith and the financial sarisan, and he was a friend of a lowest class aestri, a race that struggled simply to survive, seen as little more than vagrants if they were thought of at all.
There was only one way out, and that was to face the witch-god Hura herself, and she lived somewhere on the other side of Nowhere if she even existed at all. Getting there meant crossing the darkened and creature-filled lands of an unknown world, lands that no man dared walk when the light departed.
Jorden knew his chances of getting home, indeed even surviving at all, were very slim indeed.
